V-Tech LS6125-3 DECT 6.0 Digital Three Handset Answering System with Caller ID (Silver/Gray)

Product Description

Vtech DECT 6.0 Three Handset Cordless Phone System with Digital Answering Device and Caller ID

Customer Buzz
I bought this phone because I didn't want to spend that much money and I am glad I did. Not only was it affordable, but its a good phone.

Customer Buzz
Well, it performs well, good sound, great range, etc. but it misses some of the cool features that the old 5.8 Ghz vtech had which we bought it to replace. It's slim, and that's good, but you can't use rechargeable AA batteries, with the handy built-in battery charger. The phone directory isn't as easy to edit, nor can you upload pictures for it, or use different (or ANY) ringtones for different callers. All of this I will miss. It also has no port for hands free headsets, so you have to use the speakerphone if you want hands free. But it's a good phone, especially for the price.

I got these phones in February and they worked beautifully for 2 months. Now, the battery life is completely irregular. They may hold a charge for 3 days one minute, or for 30 seconds the next. I've missed my return window, so I guess I'll either have to life with it, or purchase new batteries.

Customer Buzz
I love these phones, light weight and have a long range. Many great functions on them.

Customer Buzz
Lightweight, easy to navigate, had static problem first two days then it went away. Love the way it dials, different ring tones, everything about this phone works great. Would recommend to anyone.

Customer Buzz
I've had this phone for 3 months now and all of a sudden no one on the other end can hear me, I can here them. Nothing changed, the phone never moved and all handsets have the same problem no matter their distance from the base. I call my house from work and I experience the same thing. The phone cuts out so much that I can't here anything my wife says on the other end, it is horribly choppy. Another issue that started about a week ago is that the answering machine stopped picking up not to mention that the battery life on this thing is laughable. The battery life started out okay, but now it dies all of the time. The choppiness issue makes the phone unusable. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Have Always Used V-Tech Phones And Have Always Been Pleased With Them. The Sound Is Great...Good Range And Are Light And Ergonomic. The Menu Is Rather Limited And Takes A Little Work To Set Up Your Preferences...Not Terribly Intuitive...Would Have Preferred That The Base Station Have A Battery Back Up Like All My Other V-Tech Phones Did...But For The Price....$129 For The Base And 5 Handsets Total....Value Is Hard To Beat. Would Recommend This Phone System And Will Continue Buying V-Tech Products

The product is excellent. Better than the old Uniden phones. The sound quality is better and we don't get complaints from people who call us.

I have owned many phones since my first dial unit. I bought this because my other phone had issues with Verizon Internet. At first I thought I was disconnected because there is NO noise when no one is talking. Just no line noise at all. With the DECT 6.0 there is no interference and I cannot hear this phone on my scanner. I left the phone(after fully charged) just lay out to see when the battery would go dead. It sat around for eight days and I got tired looking at it and put it back in it's charger. I could not believe the range. I took it with me down the lane for mail and my pocket rang (over one acre away) and it was as clear as a bell. If you need a phone for the garage or barn to stay in touch with the house this is it. (You only need a phone line in the base unit, the base works like a mini tower) And there is the pager feature so any unit can page any other and use it for a clear conversation. Not like a walkie-talkie. Each phone has an independent speaker phone, you don't have to be at the base. And of course there is the answering machine and voice message. And lastly this is simple to use. You don't need to know how to build a space shuttle to operate it. Oh yes and replacement batteries are only $19.00. So in a year or so I won't have to throw this phone away because the batteries cost more than a phone. If this phone takes a lick I will go right to V-Tech and find another DECT 6.0.

After a few days of use I found this set to be worthless. While the product literature claims 8 hours of battery life, one of the phones ran out of battery after less one hour of talk (speaker). And, yes, I DID charge it for more than 16 hours the first time.

I suggest that, if you are planning to use these phones off the charger for more than a few minutes at a time, you look for something else.

What follows is the review I wrote BEFORE I became aware of the super-short battery life on these sets. Everything else that I wrote is still valid.

THANK YOU AMAZON for making it so easy to return it.
___________________________________________

This is a basic implementation of the relatively new (2005) DECT standard for cordless phones.

Some of the advantages of DECT 6.0 include:

- easier to implement multiple handsets sharing one phone jack connection via one common base (have it on a 5.8 GHz set as well)
- easier to implement intercom features between individual handsets (have it on a 5.8 GHz set as well)
- extended range, up to 300 feet
- low power consumption and, therefore, extended battery life
- better performance in areas experiencing heavy radio traffic
- not affected by Wi-Fi or Bluetooh signals (neither are the 5.8 MHz)

This specific set meets most basic expectations for a multiple-handset plus answering machine bundle but it does not go much further than that. After a couple of weeks of use, these are my observations, positives first:

+ I confirm that the DECT features, as I enumerated them above, are implemented. I can walk farther away without losing signal, there's no Wi-Fi disturbance and the intercom feature is avaialble.
+ Intercom use is easy.
+ The answering machine works as expected - up to 99 messages can be recorded.
+ Basic features we expect in a cordless phone are available: caller ID, call waiting, 3-way calling, mute, speaker.
+ It is easy to transfer a call information (name, phone number) directly into the directory.
+ 10 different ring tones are supported but, when set to 'high', because of the cheap internal speakers, just about every ring is VERY annoying.
+ Backlit keys.
+ Easy to use menus.

- The claim of '8 hour talk time' turns out to be somewhat exaggerated. With the speaker on, I can count for about 2 hours, possibly 2.5 hours of talk time with new batteries. This is probably due to the sets using some VERY small batteries.
- I agree with other reviewers observation that the shape of the handset is far from 'ergonomic'. I always use these sets with the speaker on so this is not an impediment to me.
- They lack headphone jacks. This is a MAJOR minus in my view. When I ordered this set I simply assumed that there will be phone jacks because most sets have them these days but I was wrong.
- They lack belt clips.
- The handsets speakers can be loud but the quality of sound is more of the 'strident' quality. I am trying to muffle it somehow by placing the set on a soft surface rather than directly on the desk and this softens the sound somehow.

When it comes to overall rating, I must consider the fact that this is a V-Tech set. V-Tech tends to imply 'inexpensive' but that usually translates into 'few frills' or 'not necessarily high end'. This is a set that I can use but, to my surprise, it's not superior to my old (2-3 years old) Motorola 5.8 MHz sets except maybe for the somewhat extended range. The lack of headphones support was a big disappointment and the quality of the speakers is a major negative too. The battery life, while in line with most other phones in this class does not come close to the manufacturer's claim of '8 hours'.

Since I am keeping this set and I find it marginally useful, I can not rate it as a one or a two-star product. Three stars seem to be fair. I will be using these phones when the Motorola sets need recharging - I work from home frequently and I sometimes spend the entire day in conference calls - but they are not likely to become my primary phones.
