I ordered this Uniden Dect telephone about 3 weeks ago and I am highly disappointed. I was always led to believe that Uniden was a good name of cordless phone manufacturers. However, after receiving this phone and using it for the past 3 weeks I deplore its performance. First off, when speaking on the phone I hear a constant echo of my own voice and secondly, when using the speaker phone feature, the sound cuts out throughout the entire conversation.
I have sent an e-mail to Uniden about these issues and am now waiting for a response from them with a solution. I do not feel very confident to say the least.

Received it, charged it, used it for a day, unplugged it, boxed it up, sent it back.
I purchased this phone to replace a GE 2.4 GHz cordeless set with buttons that no longer work when pressed. Up until now the GE has been a really good phone with excellent sound quality.
I assumed the latest DECT 6.0 technology would have an equal, if not better, sound quality than my old 2.4 GHz so I was surprised to find that the sound quality was worse. I found this Uniden to have a tin can, almost muffley sound to it that was annoying. I didn't even want to give it time to see if it was something I could get used to so I sent it back.
I'm hoping the problem is the Uniden phone itself and not the DECT 6.0 technology because I turned around and ordered a GE28851FE2 w/DECT 6.0. I haven't received it yet so the jury still out.
Bottom line is, if you're used to clear sound quality you're going to notice a difference with this phone and I don't mean for the better. If you're used to muffled sound quality then you might like the features of this phone.
UPDATE: Received my GE phone and the sound quality is HEAD OVER HEALS BETTER than this Uniden. Not just that but I like pretty much everything about the GE better...the curve of the phone, the ring tone selection, the free GOOG411 button, everything. Sorry Uniden.

The phone was advertised a new, but the box had been opened when I received it and showed evidence of having been used. It was DOA and would not work. Seller was slow in refunding my money.
Probably a great phone, but I wouldn't buy it from the internet where I just couldn't return it to the store.

I have the base and three stations. This is so easy to use & program. Excellent manual. I especially like the ability to store all my business and friends and family on an easy to use built in phone book. It's not at all like a speed dial. After entering the name, and your choice of one or two numbers, (home or cell #) or whatever. Hit the phone book icon and the first letter of the persons name and find all your aunts & uncles.. You can program incoming ring sounds so you can tell if it friend or foe before you pick up. Don't want it to ring while your asleep, no problem. Want it to automatically upon pick up to be able to talk, no button press. No problem.. There are so many cool and programmable features with this phone system I could go on and on.

read all over the internet about this phone to ensure I wasn't making a mistake. Well I did the line 1 echoes and after ensuring it was not my phone provider, I typed in the model number and the word echo. I found lots of people have had the same problem that I did right out of the box. I tried to contact Uniden support which they responded within 2 days expect gave me info that didn't resolve my problem, so I told them that what they said did not resolve my problem, they replied with hours with a solution which didn't work. I would not purchase this product.

I love these phones. I do not have a phone jack in my kitchen and this is the perfect solution - I just plugged in the 2nd handset in my kitchen.
I still have to figure out the options on the phone - but so far - I am very happy.

Purchased this product, expensive with 3 phones, just over a year ago. After 10 months of use, problems with a tin can sound, people on the other end hearing me break up, my unit finally started with the "out of range" as well. I had my receipt and it was still under warranty so pd $10 to Uniden to not have to send the original phone to them (and leave me without a phone)...and received another phone that did the same thing. Out of range within 12 ft of base. One Customer Service rep wanted to just replace 2 handsets and have me try to "reset" the 3rd. Instead, I tried resetting all handsets and still had trouble, so called again and was told by another CS rep that it was the base. When I got my 1st "refurbished" replacement, within days it went out of range. Called again and CS said I'd need to send that set back to them and they were supposed to e-mail me the number to take to FEDEX so I wouldn't be charged to send back...2 e-mails were "supposedly" sent that I never got. Got the number over the phone, took to FedEx and had the wrong number and had to call from Fedex...had I kept they would have charged me for that replacement...to get the correct number. They sent me another phone and within a day I was 5 ft from the base and it was going out of range. Yet another CS rep tried to tell me it was something in my house interfereing, asked for manager and got nowhere. That's the top of the line, would not send me new...or refund any monies. Done with Uniden. Going out tomorrow to purchase another brand. This phone is NOT worth the money.
The Uniden DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Phone and Answering System is a very good phone and the price is right. Its a good quality phone and you can't go wrong by buying it. Its nice in these mordern " tech " times to find something that actually works. Also the seller did a fine job. There was a problem with the order, (all items were not shipped) and the seller discovered the problem and corrected it before I even had time to report it. A quality product AND good customer service, go figure!!!

and use, takes up very little space.
This system is an awesome deal. These phones have some weight to them unlike some cheap plastic phones I have had in the past. They are crystal clear and have several ringtones to choose from. One of the best features is that you can hit any key and the screen AND the keyboard lights up. This is great at night and during the day. This is one of the best purchases I have made in years and I couldn't be happier with it. The batteries looked too small to last a long time but I was wrong about that. I have to give this system two thumbs up. You don't have to go to the base to check messages either. I say buy it for yourself and as a gift for friends or family.

I bought this phone because I did not want to be woken up in the middle of the night by calls. I even opened the box and read the manual to make sure there was the feature to "turn off the ringer". After spending $70-something at Walmart, I went home and set it up.
Lo and behold -- you can turn the ringer off on the hand-held phone. You can turn the ringer off on the base (yes that rings, too). But you cannot ever, ever silence the answering machine and have it still on.
Muting both ringers is pointless if you cannot mute the answering machine as well.
Also, when you are talking on the phone, it is really easy for your cheek to hit the "mute" button, so the person on the other end all of a sudden cannot hear you. This has happened to me several times, but is only a minor distraction.
Otherwise, the reception and clarity of messages on the phone is okay. Programming numbers into the phone and setting it up is a cinch.
I just think it is lame that the designers overlooked such a common need to be able to mute the answering machine if you want the ringers muted as well.
I purchased the white version of this product. It works as advertised. I use it with a headset for long conference calls. The audio quality is good. I use it with the Vonage VOIP phone service - the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) works correctly, so when a voicemail is recorded in the system the Message Waiting light flashes correctly. An important feature since the unit does not provide answering machine functionality.
I have had other Uniden products in the past which have worked well - as others have noticed, this unit has fewer ring tones...

I bought this phone and found that after two weeks, I couldn't make/receive any calls with this phone. The light flashes and it shows connecting and then says "Unavailable". I have made sure telephone jack line is connected. The phone rings but cannot accept calls and cannot make calls.
If anybody faces a similar problem, please let me know anything I can do before I return it back.
I have had this phone for about 2 months and have had no issues at all. It works good, and I consider it a great buy for the price.
This phone and answering system is very easy to set up and works great. A real value for the price
The phone and answering machine work well....until they don't. We do not know if it is because the phone sat on a shelf at Amazon for a few years before we received it or what, but the battery seems to have a 20-minute lifespan, not the 6-hours the manual claims it does/should. After 20 minutes of use we cannot hear those we're speaking to and they can't hear us. Recharging fixes the problem, but only for another 20 minutes. We should not be having to buy a new battery for a 2-month old phone, and thus we cannot recommend this product even though all other features seem to work well.
This is a basic decent cordless phone. Great value. Free shipping. I got it in 3 days. Another satisfying purchase from Amazon.

We recently had to replace our phone/answering system. After doing extensive research on numerous brands, we ordered the Uniden EXAI8580 digital cordless. Initially, we were attracted by brand reputation and the price offered through Amazon. Simply put, this phone for the price is a superior value. It has excellent voice quality, performs every necessary function in an efficient manner, and is very easy to use. We can't imagine a better phone for less than $30, and Amazon is always great to work with.
I'm very happy with the quality of this product. Easy to set up and operate. Very good for the price.
I have had VTech and GE phones before but I found the clarity of voice on this the best. The handset is pretty light compared to the GE phone and pleasant in looks.
Pros -
- Headset jack on handset: I found this feature very useful for long conference calls so that I do not have to keep holding the handset in one hand while working on my laptop for a web meeting call.
- Speaker phone on handset: Again - good for long meeting calls but with this you can share your communication with other in the room. So this is good for family calls too.
- Low price, high value: I found the price on Amazon very good - at $27 with free shipping was even better than getting one from Walmart.
Can you believe that this phone costs under $30.00! This is truly a great investment at a great price! You would expect to find this phone for twice the price! The speakerphone is truly LOUD! The ringer can be heard from 2 rooms away! The speed dial is a snap and the message center is easy to navigate! You will really enjoy this phone!
