I am a pen fanatic and have found this is my favorite gel pen. I have used the pilot precise V5 and V7 and though they write smooth, I have had at least 6 that the barrel cracked. It is also not as comfortable since the barrel is smaller than the Energel. I have also had difficulty with the Uniball gel pens skipping. This pen doesn't skip, writes smooth and is comfortable in my hand. The Energel Deluxe pen is well made and can stand up to constant use.
I bought a pack of 2 in violet ink only after using the non-retractable 0.5mm needle tip version in black for a month. I love the smooth ink flow of both versions and especially like that this one is retractable. I also love the vibrant violet color (my favorite color!) but wish the retractable came in a 0.5mm version - I don't think they do because I checked the Pentel website. I actually just ordered several 0.5mm needle tip EnerGel in violet and blue ink via [...] based on the success I had with the 0.5mm in black. Can't find those in my local stationary supply store. All in all, I like these retractable EnerGel - but since I write small, I would love a 0.5mm version. If the 0.5mm needle tip violet pens work out for me, I won't be buying these again.
A friend gave me one of these pens the other day and they are wonderful. I brought it to a conference and noticed my hand wasn't hurting as much as it would if i was using a normal plastic bic pen. the pen is wider and has that nice gummy rubber piece hat rests between your finger and knuckle.
The gel is great and very legible. Almost makes me want to start writing everything again instead of using a keyboard. :-(
Only thing I didn't like about the pen is it ran out of ink just today. I've only had it for a week and i know I wrote a BUNCH...
Alas--refills are around 75 cents.
Found these in an office supply store a couple months ago and think there great!
Colors are well saturated as Energels have always been, and very smooth to write with (haven't skipped yet and I use these constantly at work). Would love a .5mm version of these colors but I'm happy with this .7mm version. I write on carbonless copies during the day and these metal tip pens are what you should use. Always been wary about using needle tip pens, as you can bend them making those copies. Ink seems to take about three seconds to dry. You can see this on the paper as it happens.
Ink is not water proof, it will bleed if you spill water on the paper, but I don't think Pentel advertises them to be waterproof, so just be aware.
Also beware if someone borrows one of these Energels, you will notice a twinkle in their eyes and they will comment on how these pens write. It may not come back to you if you forget!
