I have three brother machines that use this size and this cartridge offers best bang for my buck so far. I was pleased with the price Amazon had for this product. In the past it was not as competitive as some other more PC oriented sites for this but recently has been better than most of those I frequent.

"Patagonia Book Cover for Kindle 2" 2009-08-29
By Aubrey fan (NH)
When I bought my Kindle 2, I considered buying the Amazon leather case (which is the sort of impulse purpose I usually make whenever I buy a piece of technology). This time I waited, and I'm glad I did. I read some reviews of the Patagonia, and I ended up buying that, and again, I'm glad I did. I've now seen others who have the leather case, and the Patagonia is much more useful -- it zips all the way shut, which provides a lot better protection; and it has some loose straps on the outside that give you a way to hold on. I don't entirely trust the system for holding the Kindle in the cover, and I supplemented the design with some self-adhesive velcro. It may not be necessary, but it gives me more confidence the device won't fall out and splat on the floor. All told, it's a nice device, though way over-priced.

Great case for travelling. Light and protective.

Only 2 negatives - zipper is sometimes hard to zip and elastic to hold Kindle in is not great.

Suggest putting velcro on back of kindle and case for more hold protection.

By Kevin T. O'Brien Jr.
I spend my summer at the shore and use my kindle on the beach most of the time. I was tired of keeping it in a ziplock bag. I ordered this case and loved it. It was very easy to use and kept my kindle safe from sand and water. I loved that it was padded and stored easily in my beach bag. My only complaint would be with the elastic secure straps. I did not feel that they held the kindle in tight enough. I would have felt better with a clasp that locked inside. However, I did really like the case!

"Patagonia Kindle 2 case vs. Belkin Neoprene" 2009-08-28
By G. Machov
I was debating between this and the Belkin Neoprene sleeve and after reading multiple reviews chose this one. It was more expensive but more versatile and I was worried about the smell others described with the Neoprene. I didn't think I would read the Kindle in the case but you easily can with this and I sometimes do. I didn't think I needed a handle and as it turns out I like having the handle and use it. The padding protection is what I was looking for and it has that. The drawback that others have mentioned is the zipper. I do find that to be a drawback as well but not that big of deal. I recommend this and am happy with my choice.

 "Happiness in Patagonia" 2009-08-28
By R. Nilsen (Central Wisconsin)
I was rather conflicted about which case to order for my new kindle. There seems to be pros and cons to them all. Despite the fact that there are many reviews complaining about the Patagonia's zipper, I ordered one anyway. I LOVE MY KINDLE! I want it protected and the Patagonia definitely protects it. The zipper is a bit stiff going around the corners, but if you have an ounce of patience, it's really not a problem. It is great for holding the kindle while you read as well. I find it very comfortable even with my small hands. Its easier to hold than a regular book. Since I'm a little on the clumsy side, I want the padding to protect my kindle and I'm quite happy with the security the Patagonia case provides. An added bonus is that it keeps out all the dog and cat hair from my pets!

 "Poor documentation" 2009-06-18
By Ronald E. Hart (Oregon)
Poor documentation for the Epson V700 scanner, in fact there is no written documentation.

For example, to get instructions for loading and scanning a film strip you have to wade through a cumbersome file-a so-called User Guide.

Considering the price of this scanner, the least Epson could have done is furnish a User Guide on a CD.

"Very Nice Product - Totally Met Expectations" 2009-05-21
By Linda G. Hewitt
Let me say up front that, because the V700 ships with a SilverFast image management program, this is essentially a joint review of device and software.

We're a family of photographers with a lot of legacy negatives and slide material, some ours, some inherited from our parents. We've tried several scanners, with so-so results, and found them slow and somewhat clunky to use. Which meant we made little headway with the huge quantity of material we were trying to get into digital format.

The reviews convinced us to try the V700, and we've been delighted. First, I won't say it's perfect - at this price point, we didn't expect to have a totally professional experience. If it were possible, we'd probably give it a 4.5 instead of a 5. Some of the glitches noted by others can be at least mildly irritating. Still, even with the basic SilverFast software shipped with it, it works much better than anything else we've tried. (And using the SilverFast Studio Ai with ME makes it even better - you have to order this separately, but you can get it as a download.)

When used with the shipped SilverFast program, the device is intuitive, which results in a fast learning curve. (The videos on the SilverFast support site are extremely helpful should a question arise.)

What has impressed us the most is the adjustability of the import controls, especially the ability to adjust F-stops 3 up or down on negative imports, which literally brings most heretofore unviable negative images "back from the dead." As to transparencies, the adjustments provided for their import are also helpful. If you combine this adjustment capability with Photoshop controls, it is truly amazing how much life you can return to images so faded or discolored that they're almost invisible to the naked eye. Evidently there's a lot more information left on even the worst of old slides and negatives than our cursory examination led us to believe.

Also, we like the speed. The scan process is reasonable as to time required. Also, the ability to scan multiple images at once is cool. Which reminds me of the plastic holder issue. The V700 ships with a good assortment of sizes. Still, it would have been nice to have been offered the option of purchasing spares with the scanner at perhaps somewhat less than the rather breathtaking price charged by after-market vendors like SilverFast.

As to ICE, unlike the experience of other reviewers, we definitely notice a difference when using ICE, especially on images with large areas of solid color. If you want to use ICE, do go through the steps of specifying exactly how you want to use it, as this very much affects not only speed but also the end output. The degree of detection and correction sensitivity that you set is critical. If you set the sensitivity high, you can get rid of just about any dust, etc., but the tradeoff for this much "cleaning up" is a significant degree of image softening. A setting somewhere in the middle seems to work best. We don't use ICE for closeup people images, instead doing any cleanup in Photoshop. Also, at least in our opinion, we would not use ICE to clean up material that is going to be reproduced in print form.

There's more one could say, but I think the above is what we've observed from our experience that would matter to most users.

In summation, we really like this product and recommend it.

 "topnotch" 2009-04-07
By G. Finlay (Brunswick, Ga.)
this scanner seems to be so good (after a months use) that I'm tempted to start shooting film again after 8 years of nothing but digital. At 4800dpi,(6400 seems like overkill and photo-i's reviews indicate 4800 seems to be optimal) from a 35mm transparency you get approximately a 50mb file! Unless your printing murals, this is probably overkill too. To get that kind of file and resolution from a digital slr, be ready to get into the 20-24megapixal and 7 to $8000 dollar range for a camera. Of course, this is speaking from a position of strictly dollar for dollar resolution and file size.

AI's software is adequate to get a image into photoshop. stay away from any manipulation in scanning software unless no other choice. Not at all impressed w/ Digital Ice. It removes dust on color photos only, but upon magnified inspection of scanned image, leaves large pixilation where the dust was.

Great scanner!

 "Terrible Software" 2009-03-30
By J. Mateer (Michigan)
This is the second Epson scanner I've owned. I swore I'd never buy another after my first experience with Epson software, even though the scanner (under $100) did a beautiful job with 35mm slides.

After reading a lot of reviews on the V700 I changed my mind and purchased the unit a week ago.

Epson may know how to design scanners but they do not know how to write software to support them.

I have had problems saving custom scan settings for 6x6 negatives; it wants to reset to normal scan settings. I finally found that I have to deselect "thumbnail view." Unfortunately, thumbnail view is the best way to preview and crop. Custom settings are automatically named setting 1, etc. and you can not rename them to something recognizable.

The manual is worthless. If you do a search on a menu term it tells you the term is not found. The Epson website is not helpful either.

I've called support twice and both times had an extremely poor telephone connection; I had trouble hearing the tech and she had trouble hearing me.

I have scanned 35mm negatives, slides and 6x6 medium format B&W negatives and the results are great. If you're an experienced scanner and don't mind the lack of a manual or a decent telephone connection with tech support, then this may be the scanner for you.

This is a fantastic product. The setup was easy and it has a tiny footprint. The default is to scan standard documents to a pdf. The ScanSnap runs through the packet of docs surprisingly fast. The setup for scanning to jpg was a little trouble but once it is done, you can save the settings for later retrieval. The resulting jpg is a very high quality electronic image. This is one of the best technology purchases I have made in years.

The Fujitsu Scansnap S300 is without doubt the best small scanner available. The number of pages per minute is exceptional but especially so for a portable device. The portability allows the scanners to be easily shared among the staff. The provided software is easy to install and operate.  "Great scanner for all of your home paperwork!" 2009-08-10
By Stacy K. Nedza (New Jersey)
I bought this scanner this past winter after returning one of those all in one scanner, printer machines and I love it! I was cleaning out my file cabinets at home and I wanted to save a lot of my papers on my computer since I know I'll access them more if they are saved to my computer then stuffed in some file. I use a really expensive scanner at work and I got into the habit of scanning almost everything at work so I wanted something similar for home but I couldn't spend the same kind of money and I don't have that much room and this little scanner meets all of my needs.

I didn't need one of those flat bed scanners because I wasn't looking to scan pictures, I strictly use it for paperwork, articles I rip out of magazines or newspapers, notes I might of taken, and receipts, ect. I can also use it to get a copy of something. I just put it through the scanner and when it pops up on my computer screen instead of saving it I can just hit the 'copy' button and I'll get a print out on my printer. It scans in color and on both sides of the paper and I can scan a bunch of papers at once. I was able to clean up my files and go from two filing cabinets to one! It was also sooo easy to set up as it plugs into my usb port at the front of my computer and I don't always have to leave it plugged in if I need the port for something else. I've never taken it with me as I don't have a laptop or a need to take the scanner with me but it's so light and portable that when I eventually do get a laptop the portability of the scanner will come in handy.

I highly recommend this if you are looking for a scanner to easily and also clearly scan your home documents into a PDF file on your computer.

 "Great little scanner" 2009-08-03
By Richard Grossi
I use the S300 at work on a Windows XP PC and it works amazingly well. It was a breeze to set up and the software is easy to use. It scans pretty fast (around 8-10 seconds per page) both sides of the document and will ignore blank pages. You can only stack about 10 pages on the S300, but I have only had one paper jam in the month or so that I've used it. I've scanned business cards and it does a decent job, but I could not get it to import the changes directly to Outlook, even though the software has an option for that. I ended up creating an excel file and importing, not a big deal but a little annoying. And the OCR software for business cards is not as good as the dedicated card software I've used with card scanner. But it's still a lot faster than having to type in dozens of business cards.

This is a great scanner for its size and if you're doing a lot of scanning with just a few pages, this guy will get the job done.

You can program incoming ring sounds so you can tell if it friend or foe before you pick up. Don't want it to ring while your asleep, no problem.  "There are far better and cheaper options." 2009-08-17
By Herbert Powell (Detroit)
Many reviews have focused on what the calculator can do, but that's not all you should consider when buying something. Can something else do it better? Can something else do it cheaper? The answer to both of these questions is yes. There are several superior, and it gets better...FREE options available.

So you probably know what this thing can do if you've read the description or the other reviews, so I won't repeat that. You'll get no argument from me that this calculator can do quite a bit. But let's put things in perspective here. Did you know there's a free graphing calculator with a CAS called Geogebra that you can download? It will do almost any calculation the TI-89 will, it will graph everything (2D, not sure about 3D) with higher resolution, it will numerically and algebraically (if possible) calculate derivatives and integrals, and you can create and download interactive applets with it, making it excellent for classroom use. There are also several detailed sites and tutorials for it online, so learning how to use it is comparable to learning on a TI calculator. For the few things that a TI-89 can do and Geogebra can't, check out the new Wolfram Alpha site. Another free graphing calculator, among other things, with a CAS, including matrix algebra and curve fitting. There are many more similar programs or sites available, in particular there are several free 3D graphing programs available if the previous two sources are of no help there. You may find something completely different than the ones I mentioned, but the point is that they're out there and it seems that not many people know this.

Of course, if portability is your main concern and you don't have a laptop (an unlikely scenario nowadays), then a TI-89 is an option, but I can't think of any reason that a professional who needs a calculator would want this over some other choices. In particular, I don't know of any mathematician, engineer, or physicist who actually uses a portable graphing calculator. If they need quick calculations done, they'll use a scientific calculator or for more advanced needs, something like Mathematica or Maple, two programs that are far, far superior to this calculator.

This leaves the students and parents who are told that this calculator or something similar is a must-have, that it will be used throughout their entire career as a student. I'm a high school math teacher. These are not necessary. Sure, a calculator may be necessary at times but believe me, a scientific one will do just fine for the classroom. At home, use the freeware listed above.

Put simply, this was a great calculator a decade ago or even 5 years ago, but times have changed quickly and TI's graphing calculators and prices haven't.

This calculator has been a solid upgrade from the TI-83 for me. It takes a bit to get used to, not something you'd want to buy the day before a test. After you get used to it, the interface makes sense and is much more useful then what was used in the TI-83. It's great that you can download programs too, which greatly expands the calculator's functionality. Aside from the grips on the outside, the calculator build quality has been pretty great after 4 years. None of the buttons have faded and the screen pixels remain intact.

But the price on Amazon is 2 dollars over the MSRP list price of $9.99.

but you get what you pay for with the Kodak 5100 All in One printer and these black cartridges.

I can't print very many black and white pages with these cartridges. They run out of ink too quick. They are small and do not have much ink in them - which is obvious from how light they are right out of the package. Go figure they are only $10 as opposed to much more expensive cartridges from all of the other brands.

To complain even further the Kodak 5100 All In One printer is as slow as molasses. It is the slowest printing printer i've ever owned. I have to print everything in draft mode to get it to come out at a decent speed - and then the quality is drastically reduced.

Furthermore, when the color ink runs out the printer renders itself useless. You can't even scan documents into .pdf files until you replace the black cartridge! What the heck kind of crappo design is that Kodak?!?!?!

I've owned three HP inkjet printers which all eventually died, one HP laser printer which died too, and currently the Kodak 5100 and one Canon PIXMA 1600 inkjet. Go with a Canon if you are looking. I will buy Canon PIXMA printers from here out. They are fast and are high quality at the same time.
