Brother HL-5250DN Network Ready Laser Printer with Duplex
Product Description
The HL-5250DN is a 30ppm network-ready monochrome laser printer with a built-in duplex feature. Designed for busy offices and small workgroups, it is a smart and versatile choice.Great printer and I have owned a lot of versions, since the very first HP laser Printer over 20 years ago.
Printed 17000 pages and the Duplex broke and they (the Ext. Warranty Guys) could not fix, so they sent me a Gift Card for $200 Dls-Awesome.
Very Fast printer and reliable. I print at least 1000 pages a week (a researcher).
The only negative I ever found in this printer, is that it curls the paper.
Go buy it or its Wireless brother, the 5370DW-you can't go wrong.
I purchased this machine to avoid having to GPS a working copiers at school. Now I take care of all my own printing with a click. The best features, it's wireless, prints double sides, works fast, and it has a low printing cost. The disadvantages: if you have any allergiesto dust and particulate matter using this printer too much will release fine carbon particles into the air and you end up with this "printing machine odor" Open the windows guys, because this is becoming a health problem. I use a fan to vent out the heated carbon toner particles to avoid this problem. (Just read the MSDS sheet on this and you will understand what I am talking about). Otherwise, a hardy machine, works fast, low costs (except for the drum) and just want a teacher needs at home.
My company has two of these printers for over a year, both with the second paper tray. They replaced more expensive HP Laserjets. They work very well and almost never jam. The duplex capability is an added bonus. The only problem it has is with standard envelopes. It tends to wrinkle them as they pass through the printer. We have tried different methods to correct this, but nothing has worked. There is no straight path through the printer. This problem is minor and does not matter by the time the envelope finds it's way through the mail.
Excellent! Easy setup, works great, prints fast, high quality duplex. Hooked up to my network via Ethernet. Simple.
Yea, I got tired of fillin them dam lil cartidges. Especially that Epson junk I bought....clean, clean, clean, clean.....fil again.
Now, with the laser jet, it's got a humungus cartidge. Never get flags that say "CLEAN"
I've had the printer over three years now and am surprised at how well it still works. Haven't had to replace any parts other than the toner yet, and I print quite a bit. I print mini, black and white comic books and am surprised at the quality this printer can achieve.
Problems? It's gotten really noisy, clicking and clacking, but it still works really well so I don't really care. It also tends to tell you the toner is out, when it's not, which you can solve by blocking the window the laser needs to go through.
All in all, surprisingly long lasting and dependable.
This network printer has highly configurable network settings and should probably be installed by your systems admin. Being a systems admin myself I found the variety of configuration options refreshing in a market where consumer products are generally dumbed down so much even a monkey couldn't mess it up.
FYI the default password to the configuration manager is "access".
The Brother HL-5250DN is an excellent home or small office laser printer with both USB and ethernet connections, as well as the ability to duplex (print on both sides of the page). The printer is snappy, has a relatively small footprint, and produces sharp clear text. Photo printing leaves something to be desired, as you would expect with almost any monochrome laser unit. A welcome feature is the fact that the printer sleeps after a couple minutes of non-use, and the fusing element does not constantly heat-cycle. When you do send a print job, it only takes about 8-10 seconds for the unit to wake, and the fuser to heat before you see your printed pages begin to emerge. Replacement toner cartridges can be easily found at most office supply stores for around $49.00, and you will be amazed at the number of pages you can print from a single cartridge. You'll be hard pressed to find a better value for your money.
I have had this printer for about 6 months and I'm looking for an alternative in case this one breaks. It makes a LOUD cracking noise (like plastic snapping) on any duplex feed and many single-side feeds. I fear it is getting ready to break, and I can't afford to be without a printer ... so I am looking for an alternative.
I would also note that when the idiot light goes on indicating low toner, you need to buy a replacement cartridge, even if the print quality is still fine. I am used to printers that indicate their toner is running out but still work well for weeks if you shake the cartridge. This one doesn't do that. When the printer decides it's out of toner, it will stop working even if there is toner left in the cartridge and the last pages you printed were fine.
The printer seems to be working well so far for our small nonprofit office. We have 6 workstations networked into it. It's much quieter than the HP 1200 series printer we had before. The duplex feature is nice to have as well. My only problem was with printing envelopes. The envelopes would come out wrinkled no matter how I oriented them. The troubleshooting guides lead you to believe that it's the envelope quality, but the envelopes have worked on 3 other printers. I finally called Brother and after a pain staking exercise in having a person read screen after screen of useless text, we found the problem. There are two blue tabs in the back of the printer that need to be pulled up to increase the roller gap. You shouldn't have to pay more than $150 for the printer if you look around.
