It is very reliable and fast. The first one I had lasted a few years, and I recently bought another one because I was so pleased with the first one. I couldn't find it in the stores, because it is an older model, but I was thrilled when I found it on Amazon new with free shipping. I've not used Epson printer cartridges in it though, either in the first one I had or in my current one. I do used refilled cartridges from a local office supply store in my area, because I go through a lot of the black cartridges because I do a lot of printing. I would highly recommend this printer.Epson Stylus C88+ Ink Jet Printer (C11C617121)
These were great printers 3-5 years ago when every big box store & office supply chain across the country had them for $49. Now everyone's trying to cram the all in one contraptions down our throat.
If your scanner or fax goes out on these things you have to pitch the whole thing, 'cause no one will look at them when they act up. So, if you are lucky to find one of these older Epson C88 printers, buy one,
because they just don't make them like they use to!
this is the 4th c88 and/or c88+ printer i've purchased
my hobby requires a lot of black ink printing
i usually use a ream of 20 lb.wt. paper weekly
I have owned an Epson C-88+ for several years had a lot ou use now I have a new one, reason being I like the quality of print & the individual ink cartriges. Don't like duel purpose printers scanners etc
I have had many of the C80 series and they all have been great. They don't last all that long, but for the money totally worth it. I am replacing an Epson R320 that I HATED. This is working out much better.
I have used Epson printers for many years. The color is great, print quality wonderful. I do a lot of printing and have come to expect to wear out the rollers or print heads in a year or two. But, this printer's rollers (what pulls in the paper) stopped working after 3 weeks. They slipped on every sheet and either pulled it in to late or not at all.
I understand the concept of planned obsolescence but please, let me at least be able to use a product for a year. IS this too cynical?
I am returning this for a refund and have already priced out a few canon and a few HP printers. Epson never again.
Just like all the others, the C88+ works great for about a year and a half and then it dies. Planned obsolesence. Priced just cheap enough that you buy a new one instead of trying to fix the old. Good old American Capitalism.
I just purchased 2 EPSON C88+ printers. They print text great. I use them daily. They have low resolution for photos. Colors could be a little brighter. Easy to use.
We've been using Epson printers for over 15 years, having been very disappointed with HP and various other manufacturers. Even these inexpensive Epsons provide spectacular print quality. Photo printing results are no less than excellent. That's Epson's "Pro".
The "Cons" are many: Expensive ink cartridges in relation to how much ink you get. (Kodak leads the market for best value, if not best print results.) The printer DOES require cleaning on a regular basis, which sucks up the expensive ink. During relative normal use, this printer is probably going to last as long as any of our previous six Epson printers -- about two-to-three years. Eventually, head cleaning and alignment no longer can resolve banding issues. I imagine that if your able to take the print heads out and clean them manually, that would probably extend the life of this printer...but that's beyond my capabilities.
Excellent Print quality...for a limited life span.
I had to replace my old dependable Epson 880 which was great and used only 1 black and 1 colored cartridge. I bought the new Epson stylus C88+ and I am very happy with it. Prints faster than the old one but does use the ink a little faster. For the price it's great.
