With the NX400, you get the prints you want quickly and easily.I purchased this printer to replace my old one which was also an Epson. I now know that Espson printers are simply money pits, because like several of the other reviewers of this product, my experience is that I have barely printed any documents at all, and the ink cartridges need to be replaced. I have only owned this machine for a few months! What a waste of money. I feel terribly disappointed. My old Epson printer ceased to print altogether, but would still use up ink cartridges. Currently, my new printer indicates that the color cartridges are completely depleted, and it still has about half a cartridge of black ink remaining, but the machine will not print clearly in black either. Epson has a terrible company ethic.
I purchased this printer to replace the Epson CX5400. I don't print everyday, just a few times a month, so I just wanted something inexpensive and easy to use. I got his printer 1/2 off of the original price on sale, so I didn't pay much for it. So far I like the printer. It is louder than what I am used to, but it does the job that it's intended to do. The scanner is fast and the print quality is good. It's VERY EASY to use. It is light weight and small, which is good due to limited space for it. It comes with ink cartridges and power cord, but no USB cord. The real only complaint I have with it is that the ink cartridges are very small.
But so far, I like it and haven't had any problems with it.
I've owned this for 6 months.A review of a two-week-old product isn't worth beans.
The positive: ideal as far as my limited desk space goes; good printouts; has a setting where you can turn off color printouts, so only black ink (which is less expensive than color) is used.
The negative: scans of photographs not as good as my old standalone scanner; software for scanning doesn't have many functions for editing photos, EXTREMELY difficult to load paper into printer correctly to avoid paper jam. Paper jams almost every time I print something, wasting a lot of paper and time.
I bought this printer instead of buying ink for my old one and this thing has saved my life. The ink is super cheap which makes my wife happy. Not to mention that it copy and scans. I use it for school and personal use almost every day. Prints are great and the scans are better than I thought. This is a great printer for a student or home office.
I bought this all-in-one back in December 2008 after buying a new iMac... my old scanner wasn't Mac-compatible and apparently they no longer sell stand-alone scanners any more.
After six months, I've replaced all the color cartridges TWICE (WTF?) and now it decides that anything beyond the first half inch of a piece of paper is a paper jam, which shuts everything down. I wasted over 50 sheets of paper trying to print a simple 8-page document... and so far I've only managed to get the first three pages. I've had other Epson printers (printer ONLY) in the past that gave me no trouble at all... that's why I decided to buy an Epson again this time. Between the noise, the constant phantom paper jams, and the way it sucks up ink... I don't even WANT Epson to replace it. Unless, of course, they're willing to replace it with another brand... like that's gonna happen.
The product it's cool, even the view & performance of the printer is, but i was expected more quality on my prints, but don't...
This printer is all the necessities bundled into one cheap package. If you would like more than just basics, however, you will need something with more options than this.
Some irks are when scanning, the size of the document can't be adjusted. This would be fine if the engineers knew what 8.5" by 11.7" was because scanning a normal letter sized piece of paper cuts off about 2 inches from the top and 1.5 inches from the side. So to scan the whole page I would need to adjust the paper size to 10" by 13.7", but there are no options.
Another optionless factor is the scanner assumes reflective photo paper is being scanned no matter what! There are no options to scan a letter or document.
If you need something that prints, something that scans and something that faxes, this is for you, but if you need a printer that has printing options, scanning options, and faxing options, more investment would be wise.
Admittedly, I haven't read the tutorial, but I can't figure out how to scan or fax something. This is supposedly an "all-in-one." What am I missing. Also, I don't like the print box popping u p whenever I hit print; how can I disable it?
Terrible, terrible, terrible. Here's why:
-"draft" mode is too light to be usable. I literally cannot read anything printed in draft mode. Consequently EVERYTHING must be printed in the normal modes and this uses a lot of ink.
-YOU CAN'T PRINT IN BLACK IF THE COLOR IS OUT. I use my printer solely for black printing but I am forced to replace the color cartridges because they leak over time and the printer will not work if there is one cartridge that is out. Even if I choose to print "using black ink only" (though my print-jobs are always black ink only) the printer stops functioning until you replace the color cartridges. The cheap printer price is quickly negated by the cost of replacing ink cartridges that one uses seldomly.
-scanning/copying is very poor quality.
-one positive: zero paper jams or loading problems. My old HP had a ton of paper loading issues. At least I didn't have to keep buying color cartridges to print in black and white, though.
not worth the money.
No wonder the price is going down. ($69 when I posted this) This All-in-One is so cheaply made. The front panel (the shelf that allows the printed document to rest) has a series of tiers that all feed into each other and you have to be so careful pulling them out when opening it or they come apart and you have to put them back together. I have to do this almost every time I open it.
The scanner for photos is not good, and for documents, it only scans to PDF. No longer comes with the software that converts it to .doc format. Also, it makes so much noise when printing and it is an ink guzzler for sure. I did get some CIS ink and cartridges which helped with the ink problem but, all in all, this is not a good machine at all.
