What can I say? They are toner cartridges? I do find that if I shake the cartridge a little when the printer says it is low, that I get another month out of it.

I appreciate the other reviews telling about turning the gear wheel on the side! That is very helpful! Often a cartridge still has life in it when the printer is finished with its count. Especially with the color lasers used as the primary printer with mostly black pages printing.

These toners are easy to install. One thing though, after the first warning of these toners being low I take them out and check the little round window to see if there is still toner. If there is, I wind back the gear with a peg on it back to its original position. I recently did this with all three colors as it was reported they were going low. After winding back the gears, the printer performed perfectly for another month with a moderate amount of color printing. Finally, the low toner warnings went off again and since there appeared no more toner, I installed new ones. I have a closet full of these consumables and look forward to many great years printing with these printers. (We have 6 of them)

The yield claimed by brother is contrary to my experience with my printer.

I'm getting a bit less than half the life claimed per toner cartridge by Brother.

Before you buy a brother printer, calculate the ink cost. My estimate is about 20 cents per page to use this printer just for ink when doing color, about 6 cents when doing black and white.

This is an excellent printer for what it's purpose is & VERY QUITE. It prints slower than any of my 5 (five) other HP printers. The print quality is very good, even the 4x6 photos. Printing 8-1/2x11 is excellent. The wireless connection took a little time to set-up but it works very good now. The battery life is also very good even printing a lot of pictures.

I bought this portable printer for a trip across the country. It comes with a sleeve that fits snuggly. Very professional look and print quality. It is perfect for taking to client meetings, or on the road. I haven't tried the wireless connection but this printer is WiFi ready and has a rechargable battery. The only negative is the price -- I paid $249 and that was the cheapest price I could find. Most HP all-in-ones with similar features/quality go for around $119. Also, I wish HP would come out with a travel size all-in-one (printer/copier/scanner/fax).

I was amazed at the print quality delivered by this printer as well as by the speed. It is almost equal to the quality/speed of the HP Officejet printer I use with my desktop computer. I don't travel so much since I'm retired, but I do like to have a printer along when I take my laptop on trips, and this printer serves my needs very well.

This is the first mobile printer I have owned so I don't have anything to compare it with as far as being heavy. It does add a lot of weight to my carrying case, but I use the same case to transport my laptop and all accessories. Since I don't have to be as mindful about weight as some others who may do a lot of travel by air, I have no qualms about the weight of the printer. I am very pleased with this mobile printer. It has delivered the same quality I've come to expect from HP desktops for many years.

"Great Deal For The Money" 2009-11-04

I bought the Brother MFC-7830W about 11 months ago now. I did some pretty heavy research before making the investment and decided that this was what was the best bet within our budget.

We use it in a home office, but have not set up the fax yet. We only needed this as a copier, scanner and laser printer. As far as those two features go this has been a great deal for the money. The print quality probably isn't the best possible for photos but it does a decent job for text and it photocopies sheet music quite well. What do you need a black and white copier for photos for anyway?

We've used this thing fairly heavily for a home office. I just checked the counter and it is at 4,203 copies. I have two computers running to it one is running Windows Vista and the other is an iMac OSX 10.4. Both of them print and scan to/from it without any problems via a wireless router.

The only negatives I've run into with this is that we've gone through the initial toner cartridge and a hi-capacity cartridge in less than a year. My guess is we're about half way through another Hi-Capacity cartridge. Also the glass is a little small for copying large books, so it can be a bit of a struggle capturing things like sheet music at times. I actually decided it was faster for me to scan 15 pages on my Epson flat bed scanner and print it out of Adobe InDesign. My girlfriend is a teacher and uses it to photocopy text books for worksheets etc. She never complains about that so it probably will work for most applications unless your a picky print/graphics snob like me. The Brother MFC-7830W scanner doesn't produce a very high quality scan so don't expect to use its scanner for professional quality graphic design work. However, it will work in a pinch if you're on deadline and your Epson flakes out.

All in all a great buy for the money.

Printer works great. I have it working on my voice over IP service, Ooma. Here are the things I have a comment on

1- Wireless scanning is slow but I have it scan a bunch of papers and do something else while it is loading on my computer.

2- Envelope feeder wrinkles the envelopes when the come out.

I have used brother printers for several years at home. As of now I have older HL-1440(still working), newer HL-5370DW and most recent this one MFC-7840w. HL-5370DW works fine except sometime quits wireless connectivity with router and printing will not work from wireless laptop or wired desktop computers.

For MFC-7840w, main issues for me are FAX and scanning. After working with brother tech, my fax problem could not get resolved. At the end, I was told that brother do not support/gaurantee faxing over VOIP(voice over IP)phone lines. I told them, sending fax works but receiving quits after few seconds. We tried several configurations but same problem. So if you buy this printer and fax is one of the feature important to you, please test it within the window of product return. I request others to post their experience if their fax receiving works OK with VOIP lines or what they have to do to make it work. Scanning document experience is similar to others. Brother needs to improve scan feature as this feature is also very important to people buying this MFC(multi function center) printer for the said purpose.

Wireless printing is fine except once in a while loosing wireless connectivity with router. copying is fine. Wish brother allowed printing from or scanning documents to USB drive as USB interface is available on printer.

This is a great printer! I have owned many HP's in the past and always had issues with the printing and scanning software locking up so I decided to purchase another brand. I settled on this Brother model and have not been dissappointed. I use it to scan bills and receipts into Quicken daily and I print items occasionally. I always had issues with ink drying up on my injets previously because I didn't print often enough. Lasers do not have this issue and that is one of the reasons for getting this model.

I purchased this printer for my home office. I got it home and set it up. I have not had any issues with it and so far so good. I have been able to print, fax, and scan. I am not using the wireless connectivity feature, I am connected to my computer however, it would not be an unmeasurable feat if I chose to go wireless. For the average person, the printer is not hard to hook-up and since I don't print a thousand pages a day, my toner cartridge will last for quite a long time. If you are looking for a versatile machine for your home office then this is the one. If you have a small business with multiple computers hooked-up to one printer, then this might not be the machine for you. It does not have color printing as a feature however it does have color scanning. Again, if you are looking for a color printer, this is not the machine for you. The color of the machine does go with my office color scheme and it's small enough where it does not take up much room. All in all, I am happy with my purchase. I hope this helps. YMMV.... NEOSOUL

We first purchased these staplers for a busy academic library for our patrons' use. The first year they were terrific. This past year, every single stapler broke by the third day of use. The loading device has a small plastic nub that is critical for the proper functioning of the stapler. That nub broke in every single stapler. We duck-taped the loader and got more mileage from each stapler that way but the whole situation was very difficult. It is an example of a great product that went wrong through a cheapened manufacturing process. This might be ok for your desk, but for public or heavy duty use, avoid it.

I bought this stapler because my old Swingline finally jammed so bad I couldn't revive it. I wanted a stapler that I couldn't kill for my home office. Since I'm often stapling several sheets together this seemed like a good choice. So far I'm very happy with it.

It's a good size and has a very sturdy feel to it. I got these Stanley Bostitch Premium Quality Heavy Duty Staples for PHD-60 Stapler, 5,000 Count Box (SB35PHD-5M) to go along with it and have tried stapling about 15 pages without any problem. I've posted some photos on this site so you can see the size. It's definitely bigger than my old one but I like the idea of being able to staple more than just a couple pages. It loads from the back which I've been able to do without incident. I posted some photos of it open so you can see how it loads. I think this stapler will be with me for a long, long time.

This stapler is basically the Ferrari of staplers, with other staplers paling in comparison. The first time I set this stapler on my desk, I could just see my coworkers' looks of jealousy. Oftentimes, people will pop on over to my desk to use this stapler, because it just staples so well. One time, someone stole my stapler. I used detecting skills to realize that it was only my boss who borrowed it, because he thought it was so great. Upon realizing that I was the owner of this stapler, he quickly made me a partner of the firm. This stapler made my career.

Its smooth design and cheerful gray color practically make this stapler a work of art. The handle's contours gently cradle my soft hands, so that I do not get hurt when stapling papers. I think that's a really nice touch. Although the technical details state that this stapler only has a sixty sheet stapling capacity, that number is very conservative. I have personally stapled over nine thousand sheets of paper together. My manifesto really improved after being stapled. Before, I kept knocking it all over the floor. And you know, it's hard to remember to put the page numbers on when using Microsoft Word. I'd like to personally shake Stanley Bostitch's hand. That guy really knows how to make a stapler.

It's very hard to review a calculator because they tend to have so many functions and features that it's hard to do a quick review on it. However, I'm very glad that HP released this classic calculator.

At the end of the day, you can buy a calculator that has more features/functions than this one for less money. Some of the Casios have more features but that's not the reason most people buy this particular calculator. I bought it because I owned one of the original HP 35s and then a more modern HP 15C. The 15C still works but its too valuable to carry around. I grew up before computers when a good calculator was so much faster than a slide ruler (so that dates me a bit).

I don't do a ton of heavy trig or engineering anymore and I think the people at HP knew that the buyers of this calculator didn't do those kinds of calculations -- they designed it for the things that we use calculators these days. It's easy to use for what most of us use it for: small math problems, conversions from metric system to imperial, conversions from C to F degrees etc that makes you like this calculator. It has a ton of very easy to use features like that which makes it very nice. This calculator doesn't have memory expansion although it is programmable.

I do wish that they had put the stack manipulation buttons closer to the Enter Button, that's my biggest gripe.

Overall, if you grew up in the 70s or 80s, this is a great updated calculator to the titans of that era. Enough features so make it a true scientific calculator, not too many that its incomprehensible, very easy to use, looks great.

I wouldn't characterize it as a carry calculator, its a bit on the big side, my 12C is much better form factor to carry so this 35S sits on my den at home and it's always ready.

It's a great trip through memory lane but if you're a true scientific or engineering student, you can probably get one of the graphing calculators or some other super feature rich calculator.

I am an engineering student and I found this calculator very helpful. The only thing I would like to see be improved on this is the ability to for the ALG mode to be made similar to the TI-30s function, that is... if you set an operation (say SIN(15) + SQRT(15)) and you get an answer, but all of a sudden you forgot to add another number, then with the TI-30S all you can do is hit the up button and that same operation is still saved for correction or addition of extra operations (and you can do this a lot of times if you perform multiple operations, thus saving you time on double checking your work). This really comes in handy during a test since time is sensitive, and you're more likely to make some mistakes when entering the numbers especially if you have a complex operation involving fractions, square roots, etc. this is just one of the many issues on the ALG mode. For example the parenthesis appears twice thus you need to erase one of them to get it correct. Again, finding these corrections are time consuming, especially during a test.

I really appreciate the HP-35's ability to have room for more memory (from A-Z) which is awesome and the ability to display constants ( Avogadro's number, gravital constant, etc) but I think if they made the ALG notation much similar to the TI-30s or the Casio calculators, it would be a very powerful calculator. There is no doubt that in RPN mode is much more efficient but again the ALG mode needs more improvement. I hope they do something about it.

It is an attractive style and worked well until it stopped working altogether. I called Fellowes 800 number and spoke with a very patient, knowledgeable representative. She explained that the cross cut shredders require frequent oiling...she recommended oiling it when it arrives....then oiling it every time the basket is full, before emptying. Oil it with an oil made for that purpose that you buy in an office supply or at Amazon. Oil it back and forth each time the bin is full. Then empty paper. Use 11 sheets each time you shred. After 5 minutes, run it in reverse for a few seconds, then give it a 20 minute nap. They are sending me a replacement as a one time courtesy with the hope I will now use it correctly. Also, dont try to shred labels because of the adhesive. There are a few other things not to shred listed in the instructions.

In this age of touch screen a stylus is what I purchased.

This stylus has the option of being a pen.

Since it is a space pen it is not going to leak in my pocket and when I actually need to write down something for some one it would not have dried up or froze up.

As a stylus it is very comfortable to hold and is very accurate when you need to check a tiny box on a 2" screen.

I recommend it highly as a stylus, more so, then as a pen.

The one thing is changing between stylus, black ink and red ink is a little tricky, but easy to get use to.

I wanted a space pen for Christmas and didn't get one. So I was very excited when this pen showed up as a Lightning Deal. I quickly ordered one and waited with great anticipation. Not only did this pen offer two colors of ink but it also includes a stylus. I hate the stylus that came with my Palm so this pen seemed perfect.

I used it for 5 days when the black ink ran out (I really don't write that much). I replaced it with the blue ink refill that came with the pen but I don't like writing with blue ink. I don't know if the ink was old or if it was a dud ink cartridge. I would order a black ink refill except that it costs $6 to ship it. The price of the refill and shipping charges would be more that half of what I paid for the pen itself.

I ordered this Uniden Dect telephone about 3 weeks ago and I am highly disappointed. I was always led to believe that Uniden was a good name of cordless phone manufacturers. However, after receiving this phone and using it for the past 3 weeks I deplore its performance. First off, when speaking on the phone I hear a constant echo of my own voice and secondly, when using the speaker phone feature, the sound cuts out throughout the entire conversation.

I have sent an e-mail to Uniden about these issues and am now waiting for a response from them with a solution. I do not feel very confident to say the least.

Received it, charged it, used it for a day, unplugged it, boxed it up, sent it back.

I purchased this phone to replace a GE 2.4 GHz cordeless set with buttons that no longer work when pressed. Up until now the GE has been a really good phone with excellent sound quality.

I assumed the latest DECT 6.0 technology would have an equal, if not better, sound quality than my old 2.4 GHz so I was surprised to find that the sound quality was worse. I found this Uniden to have a tin can, almost muffley sound to it that was annoying. I didn't even want to give it time to see if it was something I could get used to so I sent it back.

I'm hoping the problem is the Uniden phone itself and not the DECT 6.0 technology because I turned around and ordered a GE28851FE2 w/DECT 6.0. I haven't received it yet so the jury still out.

Bottom line is, if you're used to clear sound quality you're going to notice a difference with this phone and I don't mean for the better. If you're used to muffled sound quality then you might like the features of this phone.

UPDATE: Received my GE phone and the sound quality is HEAD OVER HEALS BETTER than this Uniden. Not just that but I like pretty much everything about the GE better...the curve of the phone, the ring tone selection, the free GOOG411 button, everything. Sorry Uniden.

"Best Printer I've Ever Owned" 2009-07-26

I paid $1400 for my first laser printer and it wasn't even color. Now, for a third of the cost, you can get a wonderful color printer. The quality is equivalent to that of the seriously expensive color printer I use at work (where refill cartridges cost $200 apiece). I purchased the set of 4 compatible cartridges linked on the page for $80 and they have lasted a year with no problems.

The quality of this printer is very good. The feature that I wanted and like is the fact that this is a network printer. I have both, a Mac and a PC and it works with both without a problem. The Mac was able to discover the printer without any help. The PC had to be configured with the IP address. After that minimum setup, it just worked.

One word of caution is that this printer sucks a lot of power when warming up. In fact, I had to install a separate circuit just for the printer. Otherwise, it would turn my computer off every time it woke up. The back of it says it needs 10A, so keep that in mind.

The only problem I've had with the printer (the reason I'm taking one star) is that after about 5 months, it started showing a 'fuser error' message on its screen which also said I should restart the printer. After restarting it, it would clear for a few minutes but then I would get the same message. I called customer service and they were very helpful. They suggested removing the fuser (gave me step by step instructions on how to do that) and installing it again. After that the problem was fixed.

This is a very nice printer for a small office or home. Laser printers such as this cost less per page than ink jet printers especially some ink jet printers that consumer a lot of inkjet when turned on. Ink jets also can dry out.

Two downsides:

1) The PCL driver doesn't seem to be available on the Xerox web site. The one listed as PCL is in fact eh PS driver which lasts allot of useful features such as printing two pages on each sheet.

2) Power consumption. This beast uses 1000 Watts for a brief period when warming up. It will dim the lights and can trip circuit breakers if they are already loaded with other appliances. If possible this beast needs it's own 15 amp or 20 amp circuit. It does reduce the power to a nice 8 Watts in standby and 2 Watts in sleep mode.

I like this product. It was easy to set up. I took it out of the box and plugged my powerbook g4 into it and it worked perfectly. I had hoped the color would be sharper but for low level presentations, this type of printer is more than sufficient. If I need something glossier, I'll still need to go to a professional printer. But, this purchase eliminates several trips to Kinko's. I'd definitely recommend this printer. At the price available through Amazon.com, it's worth the purchase.

Well my old HP Laserjet 1100 didn't survive my move from California to Colorado, so time for me to get a new one. For the same price as my old HP, I found this color laser printer, with network access! Seeing as I have 3 laptop users at home with wifi only, this was definitely a selling point. Setup wasn't too bad (but if the phrase TCP/IP makes you stare blankly and you need direct network access, get a network admin to set this one up). Color quality is impeccable for text and spot graphics, though photos aren't high quality(if you really need high end color you should be looking at higher quality inkjet printers or Solid ink printers). Speed is reasonable for a home printer (color is a smidge slower than some other printers I've seen). Plus the consumables don't drain all that fast. In short, a must get and a good value for the dollar!

As Brian Gouge said in his review, it pairs quickly and effortlessly. 4-stars instead of five because you cannot use them while in their charging cradle. If you have a long work call, you could run into the old dying battery syndrome. My current Motorola MD671 handsets work in their cradle... a good thing too since they discharge in about 20-minutes on a new battery. And the battery is the "special" size/type that costs an arm & leg!!! :-( Of course, they're not bluetooth either.

Currently, the KX-TGA935B is ~$4 cheaper than the alternative KX-TGA930T, and they're water resistant & more substantial feeling. I bought 4 to replace my current phones, and will be donating my Motorola MD671 5.8GHz cordless set to Goodwill (darned thing is a POS). BTW: the KX-TH1211B works great with both my land line and my cell phone (especially now that I've found out the AT&T reception is 5-bars on the iPhone in my bedroom... it's 2 or 3 anywhere else in the house). If I can consistently use these handsets and the 1211 with my cell line, I'll be saying adios to the land service...

We decided to put an additional handset outdoors on our covered patio that gets exposed to blown in rain when it comes down hard. We also wanted to use it when gardening so being moisture resistant and drop resistant were top factors. The handsets that came with our pany's were just regular ones so they weren't cut out for the job. This additional handset is designed to do what we wanted! Physically, it's a little larger in size and has a pseudo-carbon fiber look to it. It's all quality, with the handset being able to adapt to night mode, an important factor since we don't want the outdoor handset ringing at night.

Can't attest to long term use just yet so I'll make an update over time. I am thrilled that the handset also uses regular AAA batteries (2) so when the stock NIMH batteries go kaput then I can easily procure new ones. No proprietary mumbo jumbo.

This handset, and the KX-TGA930T, are as far as I know, the only two handsets that work with the KX-TH1212B Panasonic Link-to-Cell Expandable Bluetooth-Enabled DECT 6.0 Phone System. This handset is notably (but not significantly) heavier and feels larger than the KX-TGA930T. The KX-TGA930T are the exact same handsets that come with the KX-TH1212B.

The buttons are all in the same place, so the phone operates exactly the same as the KX-TGA930T. I have not tried dunking it in water or hurling it at the walls, but my wife does take it outside/gardening/etc. We got one of these for that purpose, and it lives on the kitchen counter when it isn't traveling outside.

I have noticed no sound or volume difference compared to the KX-TGA930T. The Red circle and metal-grid graphic (just for looks, it's smooth to the touch) look nice to me but I do prefer the original KX-TGA930T since it is slightly lighter. They will not fit in each other's charging cradles so that helps ensure that the Kitchen phone generally remains in the Kitchen at least!

It pairs without any issue with the KX-TH1212B and stays that way, no issue with dropped calls or disconnected handsets. Range does not seem any different between the two handset models.

A big Pro for me is the batteries are rechargeable AAA's, 2 per handset. You'll never have to buy an expensive proprietary battery. And, when you do replace the AAA's it comes with, you can use your choice of higher mAh ones like Eneloop or Duracell.

This pen is gorgeous to look at! It's got a matte finish with bright chrome accents. The all-metal barrel is pleasantly heavy and with the cap posted, it looks sharp and businesslike. The grip area is plastic and some might think it's too short, but for me, it's perfect.

The pen comes with one cartridge and it also comes with a squeeze converter so you can use bottled inks with the pen. I am using Noodler's Bulletproof Black and it works just fine with no clogging or splatter.

The Japanese nibs are a little finer than Western ones. This "medium" writes about a 0.5mm line, which makes it perfect for daily use.

I will order the other two colors, too! I love this pen!

"Monochrome print wonders" 2009-08-28

One acid test that I've been throwing at today's digital photography printers is to see how closely a black and white print from the digital printer matches a darkroom produced photographic print. I miss film, darkroom chemicals, and the touch and feel of enlargers, and watching prints slowly resolve as they wash through the developing agent. But I especially miss the silvery blackness of the prints against the glistening whites of the paper.

The whites have been captured well. Inkjet paper, at its best, looks as good as photographic paper finally. But what about the blacks? Here, we've been dependent upon the ink to carry the day. And black ink doesn't typically look just like the black of a monochrome print straight out of the wash sink.

The HP 38 line of ink comes incredibly close. Can I still tell the difference between a real print and an inkjet print? Sure, but the ink is becoming less the critical factor. With the HP printers, you can sometimes see the telltale sign of the geared wheel that drives the paper forward. And up close, you can see the spray of the inkjet on large solid areas of the image. But stand back a foot and those issues disappear. Now the question is simply: do the blacks match?

The HP38 Photo Black is about a 9 out of 10 where 10 would be a match for a photographic print. We're real close now, with only an oil like sheen when the light strikes the print from a certain direction to differentiate the inkjet print from the real print.

As others have noted, these inks run out quickly. If you like 13x19 prints (that's the whole reason to get the printer), then you'll go through these quickly. And when they run out, it might just be in the middle of a picture. You can swap inks, however, in the middle of a print run should that happen so my rule of thumb is to have one extra of each cartridge, ordering another one as soon as I've fed the replacement to the printer.

The carts have expiration dates on them, however, so you want to make sure that it's not going to sit on the shelf for two years before you feed your printer with it (the printer, amazingly, knows if the ink has expired and warns you and tells you that you're voiding the warranty, blah blah blah, before accepting the offering).

So great ink, incredibly expensive per drop but you have no choice in the matter. If you have the printer, you must have the ink.

"Good, But WAY Overpriced and Far Too Small" 2009-03-01

Is this good ink? Um...sure. It's at least as good as any other, so by all means don't hesitate to buy it based on quality. That said, it comes in tiny cartridges that don't last long -- especially the blacks -- and are about $30 each, which wouldn't be so bad except the printer in which I use them (HP's B9180) requires 8 of these cartridges to even operate. Thus, it's a rather expensive printer for a small business to keep operational, unless your circumstances allow you to charge clients for this expense as part of your projects. Most of my clients, on the other hand, would balk at that. But I digress.

Anyway, I should also note that when I say that I think this cartridge is overpriced, that does not mean that you should buy a generic alternative cartridge for less instead. Not only would they probably not be guaranteed to last 200 years, but to my knowledge, you can't. They do not exist. Which is all the more reason to consider again whether this is the way to go.

Of course, you may read this and think, "Hey, that's more an indictment of the printer than of the ink cartridge." True enough, but given their intertwined relationship, I think it's fair to point out that if you are now exploring the real costs of operating a piece of machinery for your office (the B9180), it's definitely worth looking around some more to see if you might get just as good a capability via another printer at a lower ink cost.

I love my new ViewSonic projector. It was very easy to setup the first time. Right out of the box, up in running in minutes. The image is beautiful and very bright even in my living room with east wall all windows. Only con is the zoom lens feature. The zoom lens has almost no effect on the size of the image. This is mainly in trying to reduce the image. I was trying to reduce for a presentation on a standard screen and my only solution was to put the projector within 5 feet of the screen. Making image bigger is no problem, the digital zoom works great. I still love my new projector. It is a WINNER.

I purchased this to use for presentations at my Rotary Club meetings. It works great so far. It gives a 4'x4' picture from about 8' and is bright enough to use in a well lit room. I'm curious to see how long the bulb will last and how much it will cost to replace (if possible) when the time comes.

We had an older version of this scanner that scanned 25,000 slides before it finally wore out. We purchased this new version. The new unit appeared to have a CCD with poor sensitivity, plus a light leak. Could barely scan 4 slides when specs said it would scan 16 like the older version. Sent unit back as faulty, but ordered another. The next unit had no light leaks, but still poor sensitiviy. Still would only do three or four slides even with updated software. HP tech support claimed that was just the way it worked, and nothing much they could do. "Don't expect it to last" 2009-10-11

As with every other HP product I've owned (don't worry, I've finally learned my lesson), do not expect it to last for more than a year after its warranty expires. Mine expired 6 months ago and, while so far still functional, I've noticed what can only be described as a smoke stain on the inside of the bottom scanning glass, meaning some component is in the process of burning itself out. The old Acer (now BenQ) parallel port scanner I paid $50 for lasted over a decade, and the thing I replace it with I paid over four times as much to have it last less than a fifth of the time?

Additionally, the software also has issues with scanning slides that aren't 35 mm; it keeps trying to draw 35 mm rectangles on 1.5 in square images (120 film, I believe), forcing me to resize them each individually. Scanning such "non-standard" transparencies is the reason I bought this to begin with, believing that it would be able to handle transparencies of "arbitrary" size more easily.

I was also surprised by the lack of support for Windows Server (in spite of support for Windows XP x64), but at least that (unlike its combustibility and lousy software) is documented on the box.

out of the box color needed some adjustment, but overall can be set very true. black level performance isn't stellar, but sufficient. that is, deep black comes across as very dark and deep gray. despite the slow 2x color wheel, i have not noticed rainbow effects. motion is excellent. skin color and tones look amazing. picture is sharp. highly pleased for the $700 price. used the projector about 500 hours now.

I loved my projector for the first year. Great picture, very little noise, etc. About 14 months after I bought it, it picked up an extremely annoying whine - the kind that you get from an off-balance wheel spinning at very high speeds. I blame the deadbeat roommate who was watching it 16 hours a day for weeks on end (apparently lack of rent money isn't the only downside of having an unemployed roommate), but I'm still rather disappointed that the projector couldn't handle it.

Anyway, back to the projector. I'm positive that it's the color wheel (the fan keeps spinning for a while after it shuts down, and it's a very different sound from that). Either a bearing is bad or the wheel is slightly off-balance. I've called Mitsubishi's service line looking for someone who can repair it, but the closest place that Mitsubishi would tell me is in Portland (I'm in Seattle) and they'll charge me about $150 just to come look at it, plus any repair charges. After getting that quote, I decided to try to open it up for a little surgery but I couldn't quite get to the point where the color wheel was exposed.

So now I'm left trying to decide whether it's worth $150 for a chance that someone can fix it for more money or buying a new projector. The funny thing is that I'm considering getting another one because for the price point, this really is a great projector. My recommendation, though, is to go ahead and get the extended warranty because fixing this sure isn't cheap.

I never had any experience with a movie projector before this one, except for trying to watch movies in a video beam school projector, which was awful.

What I do have experience with is, TVs. Regular Tvs, hdtvs, big screen tvs, tv in the car, in every bedroom, got one for the kitchen and put it back in the closet (nobody ever watched it). I gotta say, this is the BEST tv experience Ive EVER had.

The first time i turned this baby on i didnt know what to espect. Used it to watch a regular dvd movie, not upscaled. I couldnt help to smile for a while. Everyone around me wowed! The image quality is great. I saw tiny pixelation here and there, so i plugged it to my ps3. Theres were the image blowed me away. No more pixelation anywhere, super sharp clear image, went to great to OUTSTANDING. It looks equal to better than an HDTV only much bigger. I have it projecting on an 80 inch screen, but the manual says it can go over 200! I plan to try that in a white wall in my grannys backyard over a brbq!

I already plan to use this for the world series, nba finals, football, soccer world cup, friday night fights, grand slams, and of course some hot music videos in high def.

One of my favorites electronics already, 100% RECOMMENDED.

The scanner was easy to set up and use. The quality is pretty good. You can scan negatives at a ridiculous resolution, but it takes a lot of time and disc space. The templates used to hold the negatives is cheap plastic. That and I couldn't scan negatives from a disc camera (I know - not mine). Otherwise, a good deal for the money.

Had been thinking about a scanner for months to catalog and save pictures that accumulated over the years. Was asked to make a collage for a friend's birthday as a surprise and was given a tub of pictures - some from as early as the 1940s. Since we didn't want to damage the originals, and the cost of a camera shoppe was exhorbitant, I bit the bullet (quickly) and ordered this scanner. I am not fond of the software. But the results exceeded expectations. I scanned each photo individually and printed them on a HP Color Laser Jet 4700 at my office. Even 50 year old 2 x 3 prints looked great when printed 8x10 - no pixalation was evident.

I haven't tried scanning with negatives yet, but know that the quality of old photos will retained if properly scanned.

I give the product a 4 out of 5 overall star rating primarily for it's scanning quality/capability and flexibility particularly when you consider the price point at which it is offered. It doesn't get that additional 1 star due to some of it's shortcomings. Even at the 4/5 rating, it is an excellent product - esp. when you consider what comperable flatbed scanners or specialized slide/negative scanners cost.

Product was purchased primarily to scan in old slides and prints. The quality of scanned images from slides were excellent. The ability to scan in 4 slides at a time using the provided template is very handy. I was pleasantly surprised at the resolution of each scan of each individual frame. At the highest resolution setting, the scan time is quite long but yields details not seen by the naked eye (e.g. every spec of dirt on the original slide is 'faithfully' captured - for that reason it is suggested that users make sure your slides/negatives are carefully cleaned before scanning). When printing to common 4" x 6" sized paper, lower resolution is probably sufficient and reduces scan times. Higher/highest resolution is recommended for larger prints - e.g. 8.5" x 11".

When scanning prints, CanoScan is very adept at detecting the number of prints on the glass surface (4 maximum) including correcting for misalignment - i.e. prints do not have to be 'perfectly' square on the surface, the software recognizes if/when a print is misaligned and makes the proper orientation correction (though if the glass surface had been exactly 8.5" wide and 11" long, it would have made print placement much easier - as it is, some care needs to be exercised so prints are not cut off when scanned). The resolution of print scans is a bit disappointing. It had been hoped that it would scan as well as it scans slides but the maximum resolution appears to be 600 DPI. A very useful feature of the software is that when multiple prints (4 maximum) are scanned in at the same time, the software optionally detects and discerns individual images and saves them into separate files.

The software's user interface design is perhaps not the most intuitive but once learned it is acceptable. It saves scanned images in .BMP format in temporary folder of user's choice. Before saving to permanent location in some alternate format (e.g. GIF, JPG, etc.), scanned images may be rotated or mirrored (handy when slides are inadvertently improperly oriented) in their native format while still in preview mode. The most annoying aspect of the software, amongst others, is that it is not very flexible in allowing the user to select wider ranging file names.

The product is very energy efficient - 18W scan mode, 1.5W idle mode. The use of LED does make the product turn on faster, less costly for long term standby, and less likelihood of incurring problems with the light source - both top and bottom.

CANON decided to use a clumsy fat cable to connect the lid/cover to the base. It is unfortunate CANON did not use an integrated flat ribbon cable instead that would not otherise get snagged. The lid/cover stays firmly in place when opened 90 degrees - at least while new. Over time my concern is that it may not stay in place which would make it difficult to use when negotiating slides/negatives/prints and may be difficult/costly to tighten up.

The product accepts and is capable of scanning up to 8.5" x 11" source material (it is unclear why the glass surface is larger than that). For that reason, the product may be considered somewhat large and bulky. It sits 4" high as well. Given its inherent bulky nature, it is unfortunate that CANON did not design it so it might accommodate legal sized documents up to 14" long - an additional 3" would not have made too much difference.

The pen really is awesome, but the desktop software suffers from some bad feature definition.

Good:

o The pen records audio and synchronizes drawings made in the notebook with the audio. So, you can search the audio by clicking on the diagram, and it will take you to the point in the recording corresponding to the time at which the drawing was made.

o Pen refills and replacement notebooks are reasonably priced.

Bad:

o The Livescribe Desktop software is poorly designed and non-intuitive.

o Access to the Internet at my company is from behind a firewall. Every time I start Livescribe Desktop, it tries to contact the mothership at [...], and I have to cancel a dialog that tries to register the device. There's no other way to register, and there's no way to disable this "feature".

o Diagrams drawn with the pen can't be shared with others except as PDFs, so there's no way for anyone other than me to synchronize diagrams with the audio (assuming they have the Livescribe Desktop software installed). Uploading proprietary content to the Livescribe server isn't going to happen, even if I could get past the proxy. There should be a way to share sessions without going through Livescribe's server.

This product is recommended for students; not recommended for professionals.

Great tool. It's so much more than a digital pen and the software really makes it something special. The ability to click your paper and hear exactly what was said when you took a note is really neat. Plus, you can now print your own paper for free! The notepads are expensive, but if you compare them to other quality notebooks of their type (e.g., four star, black & red) they're not too bad and are of equal quality. The only downside is you can't erase.

One note. If you get the dreaded error code 4, just write support and follow their instructions to a tee. The new firmware fixes the problem other reviewers commented about.

While I am sure that there are a few improvements that could be made, this pen is unreal in its ability to do as it describes. It is reliable, picks up sound well, records my handwriting flawlessly, and I can even search my handwritten chicken scratch for words throughout my notes, and it works! That was a feature I did not realize existed at first. Overall, this is an amazing tool for keeping meeting notes when documenting project requests as a consultant.

I purchased the 1GB Livescribe pen about two months ago and have been using it consistently since then for two things: daily journaling, and taking notes at business meetings.

For journaling, I don't use the audio recording feature. My goal here was to have a backup of my handwritten journals on my computer in case the originals were ever lost or damaged. Livescribe does the job with a bonus -- all of my handwritten notes are completed indexed. I've written in both cursive and non-cursive, and the indexing is absolutely flawless. It easily and quickly highlights whatever text I search for.

For business meetings, I do use the audio recording feature. I've used it in both small settings (2-3 people) with just the pen, and also in large seminar/conference settings (using the included mic'd earphones). I've been pleased with the sound quality in both settings -- far better than I expected. I've uploaded several of the meeting records to Livescribe online and then sent them to the meeting attendees, keeping them private from everyone else. I've also shared some non-private notes via Facebook. It all works just as advertised.

The export to PDF feature in both Livescribe Desktop and online works great. The audio export also works well, although I was a bit surprised that it exports to MP4, not MP3. I understand that MP4 is a higher-quality format, and I can play it just fine with QuickTime or Windows Media Player on my computer. I can convert it to MP3, but it would be nice to have MP3 output of the audio as an option. The only other thing I'd like to see is a way to rename the audio sessions on the Livescribe Desktop to something meaningful, but I can do that with the MP4 if needed.

Bottom line -- I use this pen every day and am very happy with my purchase.

It seem good but not what i wanted due to the fact that i have a safe box already and was comparing it, to my safe box. It's good for the price and i have no problem with the box at all. It's good for a person starting to use it with a few valuable items. The reason why I say it's not what i was hoping fr it's that it's not as heavy as i wanted it to be. One person can carry the safe out but if you don't have problems with having someone tsake it and you just want it for someone in the house not to go thru your things it's pretty good.

I bought this safe for my daughter to keep her valuable items safe at college. However, I don't think I will by anymore Honeywell products. I was disappointed with both the sloppy packaging that Honeywell did with their product and the actual assembly and poor quality assurance testing.

Poor Packaging: The batteries, battery cover, keys and hardware was allowed to tumble around the inside of the safe rather than using even a simple cardboard insert to secure those items.

Poor assembly: The wiring pin connectors were put together so poorly that one of the leads came out of the connector (at the time of assembly) that prevented the new owner from ever being able to reset the combination to something different from the factory default. Had I not had the experience of being able to diagnose and repair electronic equipment, we would have missed the deadline of getting this to my daughter's school 1500 miles away.

Poor Quality assurance: To verify that the safe was operating properly, it would have been extremely simple for Honeywell have a person push the reset button to verify that the safe was operating properly. It was painfully obvious that the safe was slapped together and never completely tested. Something as simple as even the mat that covers the bottom of the safe doesn't even fit properly.

Conclusions: Given the discount and sale price, it was not a complete loss. I was able to open up the internal electronic lock system and repair it to make the safe usable, but Honeywell has forever lost this customer and possibly others who might otherwise have considered buying a Honeywell safe because it carries the "Honeywell" name. Don't be fooled, the name mean nothing.

The best part of this experience was the great service from Amazon. I got the safe much earlier than expected even with using their super saver shipping. I had a narrow window of time to get the safe in time before my daughter's departure half way across the country and amazon's great service made sure I got the safe in a timely manner.

This safe worked fine for a few months. I had only opened the safe about 8-10 times and then the keypad stopped working. Replaced batteries etc. I then had to use the override key. Then the key got stuck and won't come out. So now the safe is totally useless. I guess you get what you pay for. I'm going to purchase a higher quality safe that opens with a combination lock. Please don't waste your money purchasing this safe.

"Bad Handset Microphone" 2009-10-12

We bought this system in July of this year. Within a short time, one of the handsets had a problem. Part of its functionality would cut out. Specifically, the ability to hear oneself while talking would stop working, although the person on the other end could still hear you. It would then start working again. We liked the phone system otherwise (like most modern phones, it's not great, but it was better than average), so we decided to return the faulty handset to the dealer (Sears) and replace just the one handset. Unfortunately, at least one of the other two handsets later developed the same problem, and it's too late now to return the system to Sears (they accept returns for 30 days).

I'm assuming it's a flaw in the handsets themselves, having nothing to do with the base and the signal from the base, but I don't know for sure. I called Panasonic Tech Support, and the rep said to remove the batteries fromt the handset and reinsert them. I did that this morning, and we'll see if it does anything. Frankly, I don't see why it should, but I don't want to appear unwilling to troubleshoot the issue. The rep said that if that didn't work to ship it back to them for service. Naturally, she said I have to pay for shipping (in California, where we live, companies are required to have local service centers, but most companies, apparently including Panasonic, ignore the law and hope they don't get sued).

I've tried everything from composition notebooks to Palm Pilots to Franklin Covey planners of various sizes, but this Moleskine Daily Planner is by far the best. I used it all of 2008 and it was perfect for my needs. One day per page is the perfect amount of space for me. I use it to track to do's, voicemail messages and various notes from meetings. If you're a copious note take, you might need another expandable solution. It's just the right size to take everywhere and the hard cover kept it in great condition all year long. I threw this in and out of a computer bag everyday and it looks as good today as it did a year ago. The only wear was very minimal at the at the top and bottom of the spine. This was easily hidden via a few strokes of a black sharpie. I have the 2009 version in front of me and it seems to be of the same excellent construction.

Note that the lead picture is deceiving. This planner is not the size of a pen but somewhat larger (8+ inches). I highly recommend this to someone that uses a daily planner, but doesn't want to lug a Franklin Planner everywhere he or she goes.

You will need to suffer through cracks from you cohorts asking what you're writing in your little black book or bible. You may also pick up the moniker "Preacher".

I first started using the Moleskine daily planner in 2007 and have already purchased one for 2009. What I love about this is that it combines the quality of the regular notebooks with remarkable functionality. For instance, I utilize it only minimally as a planner but use it primarily as a log for what I have read and seen. Because a lot of my work involves watching TV shows and movies, I like to record precisely what I have watched each day, along with the page counts of the various books I have read in. There are several blank pages at the back and I use these to record how many times I have heard an album all the way through (I have the personal rule that I will not review any album on Amazon unless I have heard it ten times, which partially accounts for why nearly all my record reviews dispense four and five stars -- if I don't like an album I simply don't reach the requisite ten listens). Thus, I use this far more as a diary or work log than as a planner. I've always been blessed with a good memory and rarely find that I need to write down a future appointment or date.

Because I use this far more to record what work I have gotten done and because I more work on my own projects more on Saturdays and Sundays than I do during the week, I really love that this planner devotes a whole page to both Saturday and Sunday. Too many planners give a half page to each day, the very days that I actually need more room for than other days.

I do, however, write down future appointments and for this the planner is admirable. Again, its layout allows for flexibility. The hours are marked from 8 to 8, but the numbers are so small and unobtrusive as to leave a very light footprint on the page. If you want to use the page differently, you can easily do so.

This is one of those few items that I have come to rely upon so frequently that I can't imagine doing without it. Every time I leave the house I have my messenger bag containing book, notebooks, iPod, pens and pencils, and planner. I can't imagine many not being delighted with this. I will add that in 2007 I used the regular sized daily planner, but in 2008 I switched to the large planner. I definitely recommend the larger size. If you, like me, intend to use this more as a journal than a planner, the extra space for writing is quite valuable. While I have not used the 2009 large daily planner, I can tell that it will be of far greater utility. In short, a huge thumbs up.

Regular, plain, good old fashioned masking tape would work better than this high priced crap.

It stuck better to anything it wasn't supposed to. Oh, and when it came into contact with the latex paint, it glued like cement. And then, bled through, in some spots

Better have an Exacto knife, or some good fingernails to get this stuff off. Not to mention a lot of time. And, patience.

Not worth it. In any respect. It doesn't even deserve one star.

I had heard of this product before and I was going to trying and do some fancy stripping on my son"s wall. So I thought I would give it a try. I believe this tape would work better on a smooth surface wall. On the West Coast most walls are a splatter texture as mine are. This product did not work any better then the 3M blue tape on this type of surface. It still leaked from the peaks of the splatter finish to the flat surface. I might try a trick I saw on the DIY channel of painting the edge of the tape with the wall color which seals the edges.

I was painting my stucco house. I have lots of places where the metal caging for the lanai was against the stucco, or where metal window frames were set in the stucco. I used Scotch "Blue" tape for a while, and then as I ran out, I bought the "Frog Tape" to try. Results were mixed...there really didn't seem to be much of an advantage to the Frog Tape for bleeding under, and it is very much less sticky, making it much harder to put on (and requiring a cleaner metal to stick against). Who knows...perhaps it would be better on a different media.

I was suckered in by the promise of no bleeding, but I think it bled worse than the regular blue tape. Now I get to touch up pretty much every edge in the room. My experience has been that Frog Tape is a gimmick that doesn't work, but on the plus side, it does come in a reusable plastic container!

This tape was actually worse than the blue masking tape. The paint bled underneath, causing me to have to touch-up all along the edge where the tape was. Also, the tape pulled off paint after just being on the wall for two hours. Very expensive scam.

It seems that everywhere us consumers turn we're being overcharged for something and ink cartridges are no exception. In the past color printers were something of a luxury, I can remember when a decent one sold for roughly $500.00 and consumers didn't mind paying $70.00 on additional ink cartridges. The only thing is, this isn't the past.

Today printers are as common in households as a standard definition television set, so why is it the price of ink hasn't dropped? Well, in my cynical opinion the manufacturer has the consumer of something of a "take-it-or-leave-it" position. If you want to print documents you need ink, you need ink you have to get a cartridge that is compatible with your printer, and to do that you have to buy what is offered from the manufacturer. This situation sort of echoes memories of the way the music industry was once run. CDs full of filler with a couple decent songs selling for over $20.00 at the local mall. Hey...you want the song you heard on MT, you gotta buy the whole overpriced album. Take it or leave it, what other choice do you have?

Well, we all know how that ended up. People today download music for either free or for less than a dollar a song as the ways of old have died out, driving local music stores out of malls across the country. A hard lessoned learned for retailers who refuse to conform to the new, but still not a lesson completely understood by the good people selling us our ink cartridges.

There is absolutely no excuse for the inflated prices of these tiny plastic containers, filled with approximately 15ML of ink, other than to overcharge the consumer and make a huge (and unfair) profit.

With the help of my closest companion, the Internet, I have discovered many websites that offer generic brands of ink cartridges (that print just as good I might add) at a almost half the price as these so called "premium brands". I urge anyone who is as outraged as I am at the prices of these ink cartridges to do a quick search on any Internet search engine for "cheap ink cartridges". You'll be surprised what you come up with and the money you'll save.

One good one I found (and use quite a bit) is 123inkjets. They have a wide selection of ink cartridges with a multitude of different brands.

You can get a better deal buying 2 of these together to get a lower per piece price, but I bought this one to round up the total of my Amazon order to 25.00 of eligible stuff to make the shipping free, which cost less in the end than if i paid for shipping. So it was worth it from that perspective. Maybe could've waited and found something else but of course it works in the printer, which costs a helluva lot to keep in ink even though i set it on fastdraft printout to save ink. Brother makes some of the best label makers out there and it's nice to see that they support them will a wide array of sizes. The best thing is that the printers can manually detect the size of the label in the printer and adjust the software accordingly.

I purchase alot of printers and pcs for our small business and this by far takes the cake. To begin with the fax has stopped working all together. Secondly after less than a year the printhead had to be completely replaced after spending an hour doing all the suggested trouble shooting ideas. So HP does send a new one after repeating my information to someone I could barely understand at least 20 minutes. This takes about a week to get the part in. I replace it and the printer seems to work fine for about two months and now it is broken again. ARG! We do not do alot of printing, in fact we only use it for color but still somehow it keeps breaking. Useless, dont bother. I would recommend a Brother printer instead. We bought it at the same time for half the price and it is still going strong w/zero probs.

Wow dont even know how to start..I was a tride and true HP fan for years. Then I laid out over $[...] for this printer. Yep screw me once...

Set up was long, but that is not a problem. the problem is not only the poor quality, but the lack of being able to use the printer without having to reset it up each and every time I have to print. Yep when I have to print anything, I can count on an hour to get it all done. The network has to be reset each and everytime. Customer service was less than helpful (which is one area that I used to adore about HP) by trying to set up the network, they ended up destroying my ISP comcast connection. Of course then they told me that I had to call comcast, netgeat, Linksys you name it it is everyones issue but HP (even thought my internet worked fine prior to calling HP) I hardly was even able to print much out when all of a sudden my print cartridges are "empty?" fat chance, just a scam to have you buy ink cartridges faster than you need to. I had to pull out my HP printer from 6 years ago to use. No longer am I an HP follower.

I purchased 2 of these about 3 months ago. Both were hooked up to XP-SP3 machines via USB. Installations went just fine. Now, time comes to move one of the two printers to a new location and use the Wireless feature on one of the printers. This is where things got tough. To make a looonnnggg story short, I worked with HP support for 15 hours trying to get the printer to scan via wireless. The installer kept failing, but didn't give any message or overt indication that it failed. Installer would hang at 96% for, say, 15 minutes, and then show 100% complete briefly and end. I didn't know that after completion of the 100% that a second set of installation screens was supposed to come up to finalize the swr install.

The first two HP support people were very nice and seemed very thorough. They created remote desktop sessions and each one worked for about 5 hours trying to solve the problem. The 3rd support tech also spent about 5 hours, but made several changes during the installation process.

At one point, they suspected the problem was my router, so I swapped out the router (DLINK DIR-655) with a Linksys WRT54G. Same problem. They then thought the problem was in my machine, so I tried to install the swr on a VISTA SP1 laptop and got the same result. I also turned off the wireless radio on the printer and connected the printer to my network via wired LAN, same problem. Installer kept failing. I used both DHCP and static IP addresses, no difference. This process eliminated the router and the machine as the cause of the problem.

Once they did get the configuration working, everything has been fine... but most people do not have the time or the patience for a 15 hour installation.

Bought a L7780 for my medical office. Flimsy pin in ink door broke rendering the machine useless. Tech support took three tries to send the correct replacemnent door. Right after the warrantee expired the fax portion of the machine began printing only the bottom half of the fax. Bought another HP printer of the same family as I liked the features and hoped mine was just a lemon, but it had multiple problems as well. Network jack didn't hold the cable in and had to be taped to hold the cable in securely. Printer heads on both machines lasted only a year but despite the warrantee on the heads, HP refused to replace them and told us that it was the printer, which was now out of warrantee. Overall a very frustrating experience for such an expennsive machine.

Don't buy this printer. You will regret it sooner or later. Look at the other reviews on this page. HP quality and reliability has really taken a nose dive. I will no longer use their products for personal or business tasks.

I bought this printer June of 2008; I have had several problems with jamming and lots of odd noises from it, but nothing that I could not fix. However, a few days ago I started having white lines come across all my copies. I called support and was told that it was a hardware/frame problem and that it could not be fixed. I gave $400.00 for this product to only last a little over a year. And support sure let me know that it was not under warranty. What a waste of money!!!!!!

What I did not like ...

- Instructions. The quality of instructions (starting from installation of app) could have been far better. More detailed and systematic.

- The "Scratch & Dust Removal app" crashes randomly. The Plustek help online was little help. I have to live with it. [Again could be a problem with the quality of information/solution - not up to the mark.]

Now the good news...

- Quality of scans was excellent! - Great resolution.

- Scratch Removal & Dust Removal App - when it did the job (80% of the time) - it was AWESOME!!

- Allows a fair bit of color/brightness/tone/contrast corrections - very handy.

This scanner is efficiently compact, the software installed smoothly (Windows XP) and works well. SilverFast SE works well; I find it fairly intuitive. As far as adjusting each slide before scanning, the autoadjust normally is sufficient, but the other adjustment options are sometimes needed. The "flip" and "rotate" feature makes it easy to readjust the orientation of the slide so you don't have to actually reset the slide in the frame if you get it in sideways or backwards. Very good value for the money.

It is larger than the printer I had before (can't remember the brand)and takes a little longer to print a new label because you have to add the address to a database rather than just directly to the labeler but it is easier to load the label rolls and has much more versatility for doing different kinds of labels. Wow, was I relieved to see that the reviewer below had experienced a problem identical to my own. It does make me wonder what the folks at Panasonic are thinking by marketing this phone. There is something terribly wrong with it. I've kicked myself many times for having purchased this system. Like the reviewer below, all of my handsets do the same thing. They cut out without warning. The voice at the other end of the line begins to fade and the next thing you know, you're running to another room to pick up another handset. I've been through the whole process described below of unplugging all of the handsets and removing the batteries and putting them all together again. Not fun. Then they will work for a short time and go right back to malfunctioning. After numerous conversations with Panasonic Tech Support I finally got fed up and said, where do I send these back. And I did send them and they were replaced under warranty. Duh, the replacement phones do exactly the same thing. Do not buy this model. Something is wrong in the design. You may get a good one, you may get one like mine. Not worth it. Destroyed my faith in Panasonic.

You can find more sheets of paper for less money in similar paper products, but not of this quality. Those inexpensive pads are adequate for younger children; we all know how they often enjoy scribbling one line per page and then tossing the unfinished "work" ... or pasting it to the fridge AS IS! Daddy's little budding artists ... lol ...

But this Strathmore product is definitely for the more advanced artist who wants a sketch that s/he can frame, if desired. This paper is of a higher quality in an aesthetic cream color, appropriate for highlighting details of the artist's best illustrations.

Since each pad contains twenty-four 80lb. acid-free sheets per spiral-bound pad, that's approximately six sheets per dollar. What a bargain!

The Olympus DS-40 IS an UP Scale looking recorder with a good software system. Bought this for my wife who prefers cheaper items. As soon as she saw it, 'she indicated you must have really paid something for this recorder. Her sense of a good buy is a thousand dollar item for $5.00 I realized it can't pass for cheap. That being said it cost a little over a hundred dollars. Which for a first rate recorder, isn't bad. It's small in size, has a good feel and is intuitive in use. It has a large clear backlit screen for easy viewing. Music plays in mp3 and WMA formats in sterio. Yes, you can use your ipod sterio ear buds. The DS-40 has three mic senisitatives and can be easily changed by an exteral switch. They are listed as lecture, conference and ditation. I tend to like the conference setting. Music plays in full, warm and clear tones. One tip to those who buy this recorder. On the right side is record, stop and play butttons. One can also activate PLay by hitting the front center ok/menu button. Hitting the side play button ALSO changes the playback speed. I didn't realize this and in advertinly changed to slow. My voice sounded very slow and draggy,I was quite concerned at this, since I have previously had a stroke and thought I actually sounded like this. I was quite relieved to find that I

had it on the wrong speed. On the normal speed my voice sounded G R E A T.

You will find this recorder one of your best investments.

This voice recorder has excellent sound quality and transferring files to a computer is very easy. My only gripe is that it has 15 buttons (!) and a plastic-faced electronic display exposed on the outside and it does not come with a case. This means that the most natural place you'd like to put it (in your pocket) really isn't an option if you have keys or anything sharp in your pocket. Otherwise, I am very happy with this unit for note taking and dictating at the office.

The Olympus DS-40 is a very good recorder. Several recording speeds to choose from and one can even slow or quicken the playback speed. The Mic is sensitive and accurate. I find the machine small and lightweight easy to use. I am a casual user of the recorder, however I think it's great and really don't see any major cons. The only con I see is with the supplied Olympus earplugs, the sound is great, however the wide bud shape makes them feel a bit uncomfortable to use. I give the ear buds a 2 out 5 simply because of the fit. Bottom line DS-40 is a great recorder.

I use it mostly for converting 35mm slides to jpgs. Sometimes, for some reason, the scanner treats the slides as negatives. You need to change the order of the slides in the holder to "fool" it back to the 35mm setting. Other than that, it's been great.

I bought this unit at [...] (they don't carry it anymore) in March 2007. I write this in July 2009. I can't wait to get rid of it. I have owned HP multi-units in the past & they simply didn't have near the poor design & poor performance of this one. For some reason the "No Paper" warning comes up on a constant basis-- there is a full ream in the tray! I have to reboot everything & call Brother to dicker with it & get it cleared. I've had loud banging noises upon paper reload. I've had End of Drum is near, right after replacing the drum. The manual feed (single feed/envelope) tray needs babying and manual set up every damn time. I don't like the fact that I can't get an automatic fax confirmation, like I could with my HP unit. It is an enormously complex and non-user friendly item that needs constant babying. I bought a lemon & shame on [...] for getting into this piece of junk. It is a small-office nightmare. Run, don't walk away from this Brother LEMON!

Last year, I bought this multifunction center for our office with six employees. It's set up as a printer, scanner, copier, and fax hooked up by USB cable to a desktop computer and configured as a shared printer. We also have a telephone with answering machine connected in case someone calls our fax number by mistake, or if we want to use the fax phone line to make a call. The scanner is set to save scans onto a network drive, so users can scan their documents and access them from their own computers. The MFC can also be configured to transmit faxes from any computer on the network, although I have not tried this feature.

The biggest problem so far was that we originally used the Windows share name to connect to the network printer, i.e. \\computer\printer. This method for connecting to the network share proved unreliable, so we configured the desktop to have a static IP address and used that to connect to the printer, i.e. \\192.168.100.60\printer. We also had a problem receiving faxes when the answering machine on the connected telephone filled up, so that the telephone never picked up. Neither of these problems was the fault of the Brother MFC, but be aware that configuring all the features of the MFC may take some in-depth knowledge, time, and troubleshooting.

Offices with a small volume of printing can get by with this unit alone. Offices with a high volume of printing may want to consider an additional unit dedicated to printing which is designed to handle a high volume of printouts at minimal expense.
